WHERE THE FLOWERS BLOOM

Chasing Winds: When Dandelions Fly

by Singapore Chinese Dance Theatre

Flowers bloom and wilt with no regrets, while fate comes and goes like ocean tides. Just as flowers evoke beauty and elegance in the eyes of the beholder, “Where the Flowers Bloom” reflects the nature of Chinese dance, where goodness and beauty are upheld in a passionate display of grace and refinement.

Dandelions are the epitome of courage. When their fruits have ripened, they are carried by the wind to embark on a journey unbeknownst to them. Despite being unable to control where the wind takes them, they fearlessly embrace the journey, bravely taking root as they arrive at the destination.

WHERE THE FLOWERS BLOOM

Floral Symphony: An Inimitable Beauty

by Singapore Chinese Dance Theatre

Flowers bloom and wilt with no regrets, while fate comes and goes like ocean tides. Just as flowers evoke beauty and elegance in the eyes of the beholder, “Where the Flowers Bloom” reflects the nature of Chinese dance, where goodness and beauty are upheld in a passionate display of grace and refinement.

Flowers, when admired exclusively, exude beauty that is idiosyncratic to their species. But when they are put together in a thoughtful arrangement, that is when we unveil an inexplicable fascination - a floral symphony that blossoms gloriously, one that is inimitable.

Kodukotti is inspired by a powerful tale from Tamil literature, Silapathikkaram. It is structured as a Tandavam – a vigorous dance that reflects the intense emotions and heroism of the story. In the performance, the dancer represents both Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, with one side of her body symbolising masculinity and the other with feminine energy.

Choreographed and performed by Devi Veerappan, Artistic Director of Sakthi Fine Arts, this unique dance is based on the Indian classical dance form of Bharatanātyam and blends symbolism and rhythm in an expressive performance.

Inspired by the legendary HUMA BIRD, which according to the Hindu scriptures, is said never to come to rest, living its entire life flying high in the sky, even when it lays its eggs. The only time it ceases its flight is when it dies.

SOAR was originally staged by the Singapore Chinese Dance Theatre in August 2022. The 60-minute production was later adapted and re-imagined as a 17-minute version for 360-degree VR format.

Swayambhu:
Pulse of the Universe

The universe is an ocean of vibrations. These vibrations are within and around us in all that is seen, heard and felt. They are there in the five cosmic elements of earth, water, air, fire and ether. When these vibrations are in tune with one another, the mind and soul attain clarity.

Dancers from Bhaskar's Arts Academy bring these cosmic vibrations to a pulsating VR180 experience with Swayambhu - Pulse of the Universe. Shot on location at the Lower Seletar Park Reservoir, it combines the artistry of the choreography with stunning visual effects.
